Common sage

Sage is a medicinal plant from the Lamiaceae family. The very name "Salvia" means to heal.

Sage contains B vitamins, estrogen hormones, essential oils with anti-inflammatory effects (salviol, cineol and thujone), tannins, oxyterpenic acid and nicotinic amides. Its best-known use is as an internal disinfectant, which is suitable for inflammation and pain in the throat, oral cavity, minor injuries in the mouth or problems with the teeth. It is also suitable for use with problems with the digestive tract, as it calms the stomach and intestines and prevents flatulence. Sage prevents excessive sweating, calms nerves, helps with stress and insomnia.

In cosmetics, sage is used for its astringent and disinfecting abilities. It will therefore come in handy if you are troubled by abrasions, poorly healing wounds on the skin or even dandruff in the hair, fungus and mycosis. Sage treats problematic skin and acne.

Did you know that…

The Romans referred to sage as the “holy herb”. It was sometimes called “sage the saviour” in the Middle Ages.
