Field horsetail
Horsetail is a perennial herb whose genus includes 18 species and is distributed almost all over the world. There are 9 species growing in the Czech Republic, of which the most common are field horsetail, forest horsetail and river horsetail. It is a primaeval herb used since ancient times. It was used not only for medicinal purposes, but also for polishing pewter or brass dishes, hence it got one of its popular names - emery grass.
It is characterized by a high silicon content. This mineral belongs to the so-called essential elements and is important for the strength and elasticity of the skin. Our body needs it to build collagen and elastin fibers. It can shrink pores and thus prevent excessive production of sebum or reduce sweating. Depending on the silicon content in the soil, we can find up to 10% silicon in horsetail. Of the other substances, the higher content of bitters, tannins, saponins, organic acids, essential oils and flavonoids is significant.
Horsetail is recommended for reducing hair loss.
