Konjac

Konjac is traditionally cultivated for its underground tuber. Although the raw tuber is very poisonous,  it has many uses after processing and cooking. In India, the tubers are used for bread flour. In traditional Chinese medicine, a gel is made from the flour, which is used for detoxification, thinning mucus, treatment of asthma, cough, chest pain or burns. Thanks to its abilities, this gel-forming substance is also a great ingredient in cosmetics. This not only adjusts the viscosity of the product, but also inhibits enzymes that degrade ceramide structures, thus preventing skin aging and the formation of wrinkles. Konjac fibers are used to make a sponge, which is very popular for removing make-up and cleaning the skin.

Did you know that…

Konjac produces an unattractive smell during flowering that not everyone can stand.
