Ribwort plantain

Plantain leaves mainly contain mucilaginous substances, silicic acid, citric acid, glycoside aucubin, enzymes invertin and emulsin, tannins, vitamin C, bitters, potassium salts, zinc, coumarins and phenylethanamides. It is mainly used in tea mixtures for its effects, which are supposed to be anti-inflammatory and help improve digestion. It is also used as a decoction to relax the airways and clear sinuses.

It was already known in ancient times that plantain has a positive effect against coughs, cold sores, and skin infections. When it comes to cosmetics, plantain extract is suitable for products intended for acne-prone and problematic skin.

Plantain was transported unknowingly on the colonizers' shoes to North America during colonization. There, it was therefore called "the white man's footprint" by the native population.
